Veronica Unfiltered

healing, truth-telling, resilience, and my personal journey as a Black woman, survivor, mother, convicted felon, social worker, and attorney.

About Me

I’m Veronica. I’m a daughter, sister, mother, and grandmother. I’m a Black woman, a convicted felon, a trauma survivor, a Texas orphan, attorney, and a social worker at heart. I’ve lived through systems that were supposed to protect me and ended up silencing me. I have survived abuse, incarceration, family separation, and grief that doesn’t always have words. I’ve also raised children, held people through pain, laughed when I thought I’d forgotten how, and found ways to start over when everything fell apart. This blog isn’t about having it all figured out. It’s about telling the truth—the kind we usually keep quiet.

I write from the in-between spaces: the past I carry, the present I’m navigating, and the future I’m still unsure of.

If you’ve ever felt like you had to earn your humanity, if you’ve ever performed strength to survive, or wondered who you are beneath the labels and expectations—this space is for you.

I’m not writing from the mountaintop.

I’m writing from the middle.

And I’m glad you’re here.
